Hymn Of Peace Hymn of Peace Image the "Statue of Europe" which is also known as "Unity in Peace". It has an interesting history in itself and matches pretty well my idea behind the music. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Europe Note: A new version with vocals and lyrics posted in 2023 - See HymnOfPeace2023 |

World Of Colours We live in a world of colours. Nature has colours that change with the seasons. People have colours. Music has colours. This is my painting of musical colours, about beautiful nature and the wonderful people I know from all over the world. Genre wise it is an instrumental piece with a pop rhythm, jazzy themes, funky beats. In other words - music of colours. |

Second Zebra A fast paced track that should make your feet tap along. A few weeks ago I posted a track called First Zebra where most of the instruments was the Zebra synthesizer from u-he. Well I obviously wasn't done exploring this universe. As I was looking for some sounds for a song Stan had written I ended up finding some pretty cool arpeggiated sounds that belonged to a very different genre. And sorry Stan... I ended up finding these sounds so cool I just continued on, and Stan's song will have to wait a while. I started a discovery journey in the many user contributed sounds you can find at the u-he web site. And quickly a melody got itself built up. In principle this is a two chord song. But the chords are played in different inversions but it is just I and V. The result is a fast paced electronic piece with almost 20 tracks of which only a few are not the Zebra synth. So that gave the name to the song. Dance along and enjoy. |

Silent People We have all tried it. Some every day. Sitting in a train full of people that don't say a word. Secretly looking at each other. Each of us minding our own business. Often the same people day after day. We almost know them. But we never say a word! |

Still Missing You - Vocal Version Still Missing You. A song about missing a former partner after a broken relationship. I originally posted this song as an instrumental piano piece. I always knew I wanted to write lyrics for it. It has been difficult because, luckily, it is many many years ago since I experienced this myself. I chose to sing the song myself, using every trick in my toolbox. Should a singer here on iCompositions feel like singing it, I will be happy to provide a backing track. I can transpose it to a different key if needed. The song is in B Dorian mode. Original piano version is StillMissingYou and was in D Dorian. Photo is from some fantastic ceramic tiles made by an Australian artist that I found by chance while surfing for a photo. She does fantastic work http://www.birgittehansen.com/Ceramictile.html |

First Zebra First Zebra. The zebra comes from the fact that all the instruments on this song are generated by the synthesizer plugin called Zebra and its little sister Zebralette (except the drum sounds). It is a happy naive piece of music with the single purpose in life to put a smile on your face. It consists of 2 pieces each with some strong happy melody lines. Too slow at 80 bpm to be a dance track, but still with a strong sensation of metallic beats that should make your foot move. Enjoy |

Painted For Free A rock ballad about how we treat our environment - again in collaboration with Stan Loh. It is a long song that starts very low key and build up. A lot of guitars, and a backbone of drums, bass, and simple strings. A great song with ear worm qualities. And with an important message in the lyrics. Music and Lyrics: Stan Loh Additional music: Kenneth Lavrsen All instruments and mix: Kenneth Lavrsen Vocal: Stan Loh |

Cruising Down The Beach Road This is an instrumental pop song that just waits for someone to write a fresh summer lyric for it. I have attempted to both write and sing something but it did not pass the "quality control". But as an instrumental it is not too bad. Is someone wants to have a try I can deliver the song as backing track with melody instruments removed. The voices on the track are standard Logic Pro loops that have been Melodyned. |

Blowing The Dust Off The Speakers I felt it was time for me to upload a hard rock piece. The kind that can blow the dust off the speakers. Lots of guitars. Some tonewheel organ. A few synth sounds. And some hard beating drums. Let's ROCK! Picture shows one of my good old wonderful loudspeakers next to my keyboard setup. I built the speakers myself about 25 years ago based on a project made by one of my fellow students who later started a high end Hi-Fi company. They have been upgraded once. They have a fantastic transparent sound for any kind of music. |

This Is Karma . . . Karma-dama-rama "If you're good, then life will be good". So true, isn't it? When Stan sent me this song it was an unfinished draft he was still working on. I was immediately thrilled. Fantastic lyrics, melody, and idea. Stan quickly finished the lyrics and gave me free hands to arrange and compose additional music. I think this is one of Stan's best songs and I have rarely been more excited about making a song. I hope you all receive it well. Music and Lyrics: Stan Loh Additional music: Kenneth Lavrsen All instruments: Kenneth Lavrsen Lead vocal and vocal harmonies: Stan Loh Additional vocals: Diane Chayer and Kenneth Lavrsen Photo: Stan Loh It has been my goal to make the chorus at the end sound plain, happy, "folky" and spontaneous, and I have layered the voice with some formant shifted versions of my own voice to sound like children. This is all layered with Stan's harmonies. I also included my wife Diane who had her voice recorded for the very first time. She sings better than she thought. I hope you all sing along at the end when you hear this song. |

Trance Of The Forest End of April I posted a Danish traditional song which I sang myself. Stan Loh loved the song and suggested that he would write English lyrics for it. I did an intensive search and could not find that this had been ever done before. So I got pretty excited about the idea. And Stan really wrote fantastic lyrics that captures the original spirit of the song. We expect to post a version with a female vocalist in future. But we decided to post this wonderful version where Stan Loh sings both main vocal and backing vocals. But we still hope to post a female vocal version soon. The backing track is mainly the same I did for the Danish version but naturally I have done a few improvements. The original Danish version can be found at ISkovensDybeStilleRo |

It's OK Levon Stan Loh sent me a demo track of this wonderful track a while ago asking me if I was interested in making the musical arrangement and record all the instruments. It took one quick listen and I was in love with this wonderful song. The song is a tribute to Levon Helm. Levon Helm was a multiinstrumentalist and mostly known as drummer and singer in The Band. A very talented and loved artist and now missed after he died in April 2012. I think we are many that share Stan's thought that Levon can rest in piece being assured that many fans and also future generations will continue to listen to and play his wonderful songs. This song features Stan himself on both lead and backing vocals and I play all the instruments. As an extra bonus it gave me the chance to get to know the art of Levon Helm. I was not even born when The Band was created. When I got the task, I listened to quite many tracks of The Band to get the right feeling for my arrangement. I am thankful for that. Great, great music. I hope I got the spirit captured in my arrangement. Enjoy. |

Oriental Bossa Nova This song is built on a latin bossa nova rhythm but the melody lines are oriental. The key of the song is D and the scale is Double Harmonic Major also known as Arabic or Byzantine scale. Normally music in this scale is not harmonized in the traditional western style so it was a challenge doing it anyway. Instrumentation is also a bit of a mix. There are acoustic instruments like nylon string acoustic guitar, a bass, drums, and strings. And this is all mixed with melodies played by very synthetic instruments. It has been a piece I have worked on for many weeks. It started with building on an earlier published latin piece. But I soon got the idea to make it oriental. I kept the bass line from the old song but changed its scale to double harmonic. I hope you enjoy this funny latin jazz world piece. |

Eight Hungry Mouths We have a nesting box on our house. I have put a small video camera in it with infrared light so we can see at night also without disturbing the birds. This year we have a pair of blue tits that are currently feeding 8 hungry babies. It is so cute to follow how they start as tiny tiny, and grow day by day. The parent birds feed them from sunrise till sunset every minute or so. It is hard work. I made this music inspired by watching them. The sound you hear in the beginning is a recording I made with a microphone just outside the box. |

Arcos de la Frontera A Spanish inspired piece. One of the greatest moments we had in Spain was being guests at a wedding in the beautiful mountain village Arcos de la Frontera. One day someone may write beautiful lyrics for it in Spanish. It sure has the kind of melody that could work with a Spanish singer. The photo is taken from our hotel - in 2003 |

I Skovens Dybe Stille Ro A beautiful old Danish traditional song that I have always loved. If I knew a female Danish singer here in iCompositions I would have left the singing to her. But I don't. So you will have to settle with me. This song is so old that noone knows who wrote it. Lyrics are first time recorded in 1864 by who is now believed to be the author Fritz Andersen. I have myself written the piano solo and the choir part. The Danish world famous jazz bass player Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (who we all miss now) made it famous again in his legendary version where the melody is played on the double bass. Here recorded with Kenny Drew on piano. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PWEocxtcmM And the younger generation of Danish jazz musicians keep this version alive. Here with Chris Minh Doky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rPruSoz7k0 And this Norwegian singer Sissel sings beautifully in Danish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0MCuVgFO2A I have provided the lyrics in Danish and a translation to English. Should a Danish/Scandinavian singer pop up, I would love to re-publish it with a female voice. EDIT EDIT: My dear Canadian friend Stan Loh heard this and wrote English lyrics for the song and sings it. Don't miss is. http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=181363 |

Highland Longing This is an instrumental piece with Celtic tone. It starts low and builds up to a huge finale. It is a piece where I quickly got the melody lines made again inspired by a sound I played with. But then I spent a lot of time getting all the details right and building up the song. Again there is a hint of Oldfield in this music. |

Europe on the Autozug An upbeat happy pop instrumental. This year my wife and I went from Denmark to Piemonte in Italy by car. And instead of driving for 2-3 days we took for the first time the Autozug (car train) from Hamburg to Alexandria. You drive the car on board the train and go to your own little luxury cabin with your own bathroom, eat in the restaurant car, and sleep nicely in a bed. In the early morning you can see the Swiss alps from your bed. That is the way to travel. So a happy song for a happy experience. |

Helle In memory of Helle Williamson (born Frederiksen) 12 July 1965 - 12 Apr 2012 Helle and I were classmates from 1972 to 1981 in Pilegådsskolen. The picture of Helle is from our 9th grade group picture in 1981. It was a shock to us all to hear she passed away so young. Also for us that only met Helle again a few times since school. This little piece of music is my expression of the feelings this sad news gave me. It is also confirms my view that we must live our lives NOW, while we are still here. We never know when it is our time to leave. |

Transit Of Venus Transit Of Venus. Venus passing between the sun and earth. A rare event. Last time was in 2004. Next time is this year 2012, June 5-6. And then you have to wait until year 2117 for the next one. So don't miss it. The music is a simple piece. It only has 3 instruments, all modeled synths. Very quiet and reflective music. The inspiration came from hearing the sound of one of the synths. Though I could have added more and polished the sounds I chose not to. I think the quality of this music lies in its mood, the melody and the sounds that came from pressing the keys at different strengths. The photo is one I took with my own camera. Exciting experience. |

And Then We Die Pop song with lyrics sung by me. The song is about my life philosophy: Live your life while you still have it and do not let anyone tell you that they know better than you, how to live your life. The title sounds dramatic but the song is actually upbeat and should bring a smile to the faces of most people. |

The Rider And The Silver Bullet The Rider And The Silver Bullet. It is written like it was a soundtrack for a real western with open nature and gun fighters seeking revenge. I had the music of Ennio Morricone in mind when I composed this. The largest project I have made so far written for a full symphony orchestra. |

Dancing Pipes Dancing Pipes is an upbeat piece of electronica with strong melody lines and a rhythm that should make sure foot rock as you hear it. It started as a track with organ and reel pipe instruments but it was very boring and I changed everything to this happy techno-like piece. Only one pipe organ remained which is blending in and the title of the song. I made this in Garageband last year and gave it some update in Logic adding some pieces to the song that I felt was missing. The song ends a little surprising with a tune with a bit of Irish folk feeling to it. I may one day build a new song based on this theme. |

Second Step This is a melody that I originally recorded as one of my very first tracks in Garageband back in July 2011. I was playing with a synth called the "Voodoo Grove A Stepper" and made a techno like song with it. And then I started playing around adding more instruments, choir. Maybe not with the biggest thought process. And it was before I started reading music theory books. But the result ended up as an upbeat song with a mix of electronica and pop. At first I did not want to upload it but I was encouraged by ihussain because he wanted to hear what I had done with this stepper sound. The steppers are simply synth sounds with a mix of filters that change in 1/16 or 1/8 pattern giving an arpeggiated effect. Some of the filters produce very odd harmonics making the sound dissonant. It is a cool effect. I gave it a brief mixing in Logic to improve balance of instruments and master compression before uploading it but all the notes and sounds are like I made them in originally. |
