FC3 with Motion crashing
  Question
Running motion-3.1.18 on FC3 HP TC2120 server with Hauppage
WinTV-Express card. Kernel is 2.6.10-1.766_FC3 #1
USB camera works just fine. However when I enabled thread for another camera on Composite input on Hauppage card my server dies after a period of time (usually overnight). Needed to cycle power. ....and fsck on
VolumeGroup00 now as well.....
It was complaining about "Kernel panic - not syncing mm/slab.c"
Then later it was kernel panicking but no longer the message re slab.c
  Environment

			| Motion version: | 3.1.18 |

			| ffmpeg version: | compiled without |

			| Libraries: | curl, xmlrpc, ffmpeg, mysql, postgresql |

			| Server OS: | FC3 |

  Answer
This is PCI bus related and nothing to do with Motion or v4linux but an issue with Hauppage
WinTV-Express card timing on the PCI bus of certain motherboards like that on the HP TC2120 server.
My HP TC2120 has only one suitable slot (the blue one) its a 5 volt PCI bus slot which is 64/32 bit. Its listed as slot 5 with automatic interupt 11.
Upgraded the TC2120 BIOS to the latest version.
Then found this URL
http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/faq/support_faq_pci_lockups.html#2
and dropped my latency on PCI from 30 to 10 (mircoseconds I think the units are).
That seems to have fixed it as it did not crash lastnight. Fingers (and toes) crossed!
