Motion detection Algorithm

Question

Hello, I'm a student, who makes his practise in Slovenia at the moment. I made a video surveillance system with Motion and Beagle Board. Now I want do describe a little bit at deep Motion. In other words to describe how exactly Motion program detects movements. Can somebody tell me the algorithm which Motion program uses for motion detection?
