Differences in behaviour between daemon and non daemon modes

Question

I am running motion 3.2.12 on a Raspberry Pi with a script file called by a motion.config file path parameter (see verbatim text). Motion works as expected in the non daemon mode (-n), calling the script after each event. Motion works the same in the daemon mode except that the script is not executing. Both modes are using the same config file. I can find no error messages in the log file. I suspect uid:gid issues are the culprit but my changes to get it working have not been successful. More info can be furnished but I have found no trace of an error condition to report on.
