Motion - Support Question 2010x 05x 30x 102540

motion on beagleboard - choppy images

Question

I am trying motion on beagleboard. For that, I am using rootfs built on Ubuntu Lucid. All the drivers, libraries and motion is properly installed there. When I boot beagleboard, my camera gets detected as /dev/video0 I am also able to run motion. Its detecting motion and capturing images. The issue is, images are choppy.

I am new to video on linux so not really sure what might be missing here.

Text below contains output from dmesg, motion -n -d 10, motion.conf file.

motion on beagleboard - choppy images

<!-- Do not edit title above. Edit the TopicTitle field in the form at the bottom -->

Environment

Motion version: 3.2.11.1
ffmpeg version: 0.5.1-1ubuntu1
Libraries: ffmpeg, mysql, postgresql
Server OS: Ubuntu - Lucid

-- SiddharthKarandikar - 30 May 2010

Follow Up

You can try to reproduce with 3.2.12 ( not released yet )
mkdir motion
cd motion
svn co http://www.lavrsen.dk/svn/motion/branches/3.2/ .
autoconf ; ./configure ; make
./motion -n -d 10

Also give a try with libv4l :
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so motion <parameters>

-- AngelCarpintero - 30 May 2010

Follow Up

Changing resolution of images to 640x480 seems to work. No more choppy images.

Current rootfs image doesn't contain v4l2convert.so file. I will install required packages and test it if that makes motion behave differently. I certainly don't want image size to be fixed/bound to something.
