Motion - Support Question 2013x 04x 24x 113109

How can I use auto-brightness with a netcam?

Question

I am using the Instar 3010 camera (http://www.instar.de/de/in-3010-schwarz_10.html) successfully with motion-detection, recording and else. However, while the camera itself has auto-brightness (it can be switched to manual) it is not working very well. So I tried to use motion with its auto-brightness, but this does not work.

As there is no mention of commands being send to the camera, I first thought motion recalculates the picture to normalize for desired brightness. But it may actually be sending commands, but only for USB-webcams?

If so, and since the control commands are known, can the netcam controls be used for auto-brightness? How?
Reading from the camera:
netcam_url http://selcam/videostream.cgi?user=besuch&pwd=&resolution=32&rate=0

Controlling brightness and contrast:
http://selcam/camera_control.cgi?param=&value=[&user=&pwd=&next_url=]
param value
1:brightness 0~255
2:contrast 0~6

Environment

Motion version: 3.2.11
ffmpeg version: ffmpeg LIBAVCODEC_BUILD 3412993 LIBAVFORMAT_BUILD 3415808
Libraries: ffmpeg, mysql,
Server OS: ubuntu 10.04, kernel 3.0.0-32-generic

Answer

This option is only available in driver level ( webcam / capture cards ) , probably your camera ip allows to change this value however motion doesn't support .
